My Work

Cello:

A copy of Andrea Guarneri 1674. A cello that is very familiar as I have helped maintain it over the last 15+ years. The back has been made with old stock one piece Willow with matching ribs and scroll. The neck is of flamed maple. The front is of even grained alpine spruce. The varnish is a dark red-brown on a golden amber ground and has been given an antique worn look. Completed in Spring 2024.

Cello:

SOLD. A Stradivari Model cello. Jointly made with my very good friend Timothy Littlar.  Not an easy venture as he lives and works in England and I live and work in Hong Kong. Nether the less, we managed it over several years. We used old stock tone wood that I purchased in Germany in the early 1990’s. The result is a very good looking cello with excellent sound quality. The label inside states both our names: T.J. Spencer and T.J. Littlar.

Violin:

SOLD Based on Guarneri Del Gesu, 1745 “Sauret”. I have to say “based on” as it really is my interpretation. I’m using a very attractive 2 piece back that is over 20 years old. Have made a few of this model and they really sound good.

3/4 Violin:

A rare violin coming from any master workshop. Made originally for my youngest daughter. The back for this violin is stunningly beautiful and well over 50 years old. The model is entirely my own and very quirky and full of character with 4/4 sound. Perfect for a small lady or promising young player. This violin has been sold twice before and is now back again for sale as the young players that have previously played on it have moved to a 4/4 violin.
